Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of problems and challenges, including addictions, anxiety, depression, exam nerves, fears and phobias, insomnia, panic attacks, pain control, public speaking, stopping smoking, weight issues, work or sports performance.
Hypnotherapy can also improve self-confidence and increase self-esteem.
This is especially important if you are nervous about social situations or are having difficulties in relations, whether personal or professional.
Self-hypnosis is a simple but powerful tool that is easy to learn and can dramatically improve your ability to stay relaxed and focused.

What to expect
If you have not experienced hypnotherapy before then it can perhaps feel a bit scary and you may be wondering what will happen. I hope that I can reassure you, both about hypnotherapy and about the way I work.
We will meet in my practice room – a safe, private, undisturbed space where you can talk in confidence about any of the things that are troubling you and that you want to change. I will guide you into a very natural state of relaxation. Because I believe that you know yourself best, I will not make you talk about, or do, anything that you do not want to do, whether you are in hypnosis or in your normal state. A session lasts 90 minutes and you will be in hypnosis for only part of that time. We will take all the time that’s needed to discuss what is concerning you, and above all what you want to achieve.

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis, or trance as it is often called, is a normal and deeply powerful human ability. Every one of us is moving in and out of trance-like states throughout the day.
If you’ve ever found yourself so absorbed in, say, watching TV, driving or doing the ironing, or even simply staring out of the window, to the point where all background noise and outer distractions have simply disappeared, or you don’t quite know where the time has gone, then you have been in trance.
When you are in trance you know who and where you are, but you are also strongly focused on your inner reality. You may experience a deeper awareness of sensations, memories (sometimes long-forgotten) and more creative imagination. In this state, you are able to discover and get rid of limiting self-beliefs, allow your mind to ‘rehearse’ changes (so that when the ‘real’ situation occurs again you can be confident and natural), and create new, more positive meaning and goals.

How we will work with hypnosis
Using hypnosis (trance) as well as talking through your concerns and goals means that we can make changes more deeply and quickly.
When you are in trance you are in a state of peaceful and intense attention. This special state is one that is most helpful and effective for making changes.
I will work with you in a very natural trance state, similar to day-dreaming or meditation. You may want to have your eyes open or closed. You may want to sit or lie down. These are your choices; I will work with your preferences. We will use hypnosis to relax, discover the root cause of a problem, and create new ways of thinking, believing and behaving.
Because hypnosis is so effective at helping people to relax, I may teach you self-hypnosis so that you are able to continue to find peaceful, restful states in between sessions and after our work together has finished.
Sessions: how much, and how many?
Hypnotherapy sessions last for 90 minutes and generally cost £55. My fee is negotiable for those on a low income.
We will discuss the number of sessions in our initial meeting to decide what would be beneficial. You can review this at any time during our work together.
My clinic days are Thursdays and Fridays. I have some evening and Saturday appointments available.
If you have any further queries then please do call or e-mail me. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Or you can have a look through the Questions and answers section of this website.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis or ‘trance’ works by allowing you to address issues you want to change in a very calm and creative state. Its purpose in therapy is to allow you to create new ways of thinking, believing and behaving.
While you are in hypnosis you will know who and where you are, but you will also be able to focus on your inner awareness. Because hypnosis is both very calming and creative, it is one of the most positive and useful states for making changes.
Perhaps the best description of the trance state is ‘parallel awareness’. In this state we are much better able to calm down, find insights and deepen inner connections and understandings. Without going into trance, we wouldn’t be able to learn, concentrate or focus our attention on a particular task or action.
